Fairview Tributes

An american flag is sitting on top of a rock on the beach.

Fairview respectfully presents its Tribute Program to honor and show gratitude to individuals and Family members interred at Fairview.  It is our goal to highlight the lives of those who have made special contributions or sacrifices to help others in making our society and world better.

This collection pays tribute to Veterans and Family members who served during times when the United States was involved in major military conflicts. The stories are part of our local history and are fascinating. The program is always seeking submissions from individuals who are able to highlight the involvement of any friend or family member who served during a period of military conflict. The tribute program is ongoing. We will continue to regularly add tributes throughout the year for people interred here.

If you have a tribute you would like to submit for consideration, please contact us at:

Clement E. Chapman

Clement E. Chapman (1918 -1942), Private First Class, United States Army

Clement was born in Plainfield, New Jersey and attended school in the area, completing two years of high school. He was inducted into the United States Army in April 1941 and became part of the infamous, all colored 366th Infantry Regiment. He was assigned to Company B at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, continuing his infantry training. Near the end of his training, in late December 1941, just weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Clement and several other soldiers were involved in a serious automobile accident just off base in Massachusetts. He was hospitalized but died from his injuries in January 1942. Two other soldiers also died in the same accident. His gravestone at Fairview was provided by the Central Board of Veterans of Plainfield.
