There are many veteran benefits available that can be referenced at www.cem.va.gov 

Veterans’ markers may be placed to mark an individual’s service. The application form for the marker is available, upon request, at the cemetery office. Although there are several choices of type of marker, Fairview only allows the flat granite. The other various choices are given so that each cemetery has a type that conforms to their rules and regulations.

Once the application is completed up to line 24, the form is returned to the cemetery with a photocopy of the discharge papers, and a check for the current foundation fee. Fairview then processes the request through the Veterans Administration.

When the marker arrives, Fairview installs the marker on the foundation prepared and will notify the family of its placement.
